Antler Chandeliers: Not Your Average Deer in the Headlights

February 3, 2010

We all love the light from a chandelier. They not only look good but also spread light throughout the room. Chandeliers are available in many styles and price ranges and there is one that fits your room and décor perfectly.

Though the average American homeowner isn’t interested in a crystal beauty that hangs from their 30 foot foyer, they do seek a unique flair when choosing lighting for their home.

For an old concept that’s catching on in the mainstream, consider deer antler and elk antler chandeliers. They may be purchased readymade or you can find instructions online to build one yourself.

Deer and elk shed their antlers annually so they’re free for the finding. One hike through the woods where the deer and the antelope play could provide the base of just the jackpot, conversation piece you were looking for.

Antler chandeliers are made from whitetail deer, mule deer, moose and elk. Choose your favorite or let the size be the deciding factor. Check with your local taxidermist who may have a supply that’s just right for the location you have in mind. Once you’ve got the base antler, all you need is an electrician.

If you’re not in the do-it-yourself mode, there are many online sites available that offer oodles of styles, from ceiling fan lights to pool table chandeliers. You can even turn smaller antler sections into sconces to complete the look of the room.

A rustic cabin may or may not be exactly what you’re going for but a little bit of nature is always a good, green thing. A deer antler or elk antler chandelier will create a natural warmth that makes everyone feel cozy and comfortable. And, don’t forget about your outdoor rooms. An outdoor summer gazebo or pergola with an antler chandelier would be a spectacular entertaining space.
