Auto Powder Coating Equipment: Should You Use A Paint Gun?

January 27, 2010 – 1:04 pm

Powder coating is one of the newest forms of auto paint jobs that are currently used today. The use of powder coating equipment involves the application of paint coating without the need for solvents. Unlike the typical paint, powder coating utilize a more advanced paint system. It is pretty much similar to a dry paint, but rather than using paint, pigmented powder is applied. This powder is created from varying ingredients including fusion-bonded epoxies, acrylics, aluminum, and medium-density fiber boards. All of the said ingredients are required to come up with polymer granules that will be mixed to the powder ingredient to form the desired paint color.

Once all of the said ingredients have been blended together, they will be placed in an extruder, and then they will be rolled flat before cooling off. The bonded ingredients will be broken down in order to acquire a powder form. Powder coating is typically applied to the car’s surface with the use of an electronically charged paint gun. The surface being painted is heated in order for the powder to stick perfectly. The end result is an abrasion-resistant paint covering on the vehicle’s surface. Powder coated vehicles offer a smart-looking, and tough outer covering that showcases an attractive metallic finish.

The good thing about powder coating is the fact that it can be applied in a vast range of thickness and it is available in many colors. The equipments that are commonly used in this kind of painting process include the paint canister (which hold the powder coating), and of course the electronically-charged painting gun. The corona charging gun is one type of painting gun used for powder coating. To introduce an electronic charge to the gun, electronic power is used. The said gun can be used externally or internally.

Make sure to browse through different types of powder coating equipment (especially when selecting paint guns) to ensure that you will be acquiring the most applicable one!
