Home-based data entry jobs have begun to make it possible for individuals to work from home at their own speed. In this article, we’ll take a look at how to find these types of roles, and highlight some of the scams that you need to be careful of.

Unfortunately, doing data entry work from home is one profession that is open to a lot of scams. This is due to the fact that you do not get to meet your employer face-to-face, so there has to be an implicit trust on both sides. For data entry company insists on any type of investment upfront then you should walk away from these types of roles. Even if the company is asking for money to pay for literature or training courses that they provide then this can also be a potential scam.

One of the more traditional scams with data entry jobs is offering these types of roles through want ads in newspapers. These types of offers only require a phone number in order to be set up, and the newspaper editors themselves do not go to any lengths to confirm the veracity of these types of ads, so they have long been a source of scams.

Instead, the starting point for your search should be the larger online employment websites. These websites analyze job advertisements they post for details of scams and take on board any feedback from customers who have reported problems with employers.

Next, you should also consider companies in your local region as an additional source of data entry work from home. While you may not intend working on their premises, the fact that they are local means that you are better able to check them out by visiting them directly or researching the company’s history through colleagues are local sources.

Finally, whether you’re searching the online websites or corporate job sections you should be aware of the fact that many data entry jobs are not explicitly titled as data entry work. You will often find that transcription/call centre/writing roles will implicitly involve data entry work that can be done from home. With this in mind, you may need to scan full job specifications in order to get a clearer view of what a role truly involves, and whether it can be done from home.

Why would you want to sell stuff on Amazon? I’ll give you two good reasons.

Reason #2: they handle all the money stuff for you; you don’t have to worry about bounced checks, stolen credit cards, etc.

Reason #1: they have millions and millions of customers and will get your products in front of those people at no charge to you.

Interested? Let’s take a look at what it takes to successfully sell on Amazon.

Getting started is actually pretty easy; just hop over to Amazon’s website and fill out a quick form and you’re good to go. Listing items is free;  you pay only when the item sells. A free account keeps your listing up for 60 days; a paid account ($40 per month) leaves them up indefinitely, removes the extra 99 cent per item fee, and provides other advantages. For most items, Amazon charges a flat 15% of the sale price + shipping; in general, they also set the shipping rates.

In order to consistently make money on Amazon, you need to have a source of items that you can sell for considerably above your price, so as to make a decent profit after Amazon fees. Used books are a popular choice, as they’re compact, easy to pack, and cheap to ship. Video games are popular as well, for the game reasons. While almost everything that can be shipped through the mail is available at Amazon, some categories are restricted to certain sellers, so it’s worth checking that the category is open to you before spending a lot of money on merchandise.

So is it really possible to make good money on Amazon? As I described in my Amazon book, in the first three months after I started my part-time Amazon business, I made an $8600 profit. Will everyone make that much money? Of course not…but it does show that no particular knowledge or experience is required to be successful, just a credit card and some hard work!
