Cellulite Treatments: How To Reduce the Appearance of Cellulite

January 13, 2010

As summer approaches, many women begin to get concerned about the cellulite on their legs, thighs and buttocks. Sometimes called orange peel syndrome or cottage skin cheese, cellulite is the lumpy appearance that mainly appears on women’s body. Men are hardly affected by the problem because they have thicker skin and the composition of their fat cells doesn’t predispose the cells to clumping together.

The cellulite problem can affect women whether they are thin or heavy. This is because it is only generally related to weight gain and is mainly caused by the actual structure of female fat cells. Under a woman’s skin, there are fiber bands that connect the muscle to the skin. In between the muscle and skin, the bands hold the fat cells together in a honeycomb like structure. Due to age, poor diet, lack of exercise or unhealthy habits, these bands can become hard and start to pull down on the skin to create dimples. At the same time, the harden bands pull the fat cells together and cause them to protrude upwards to cause the lumps on the skin.

If you are looking for natural cellulite removal, there are anti-cellulite cream available that contain natural ingredients that are known to help improve the condition. Generally speaking, these lotions are marketed to reduce the appearance of cellulite by up to 40 percent in 6 weeks. They can cost anywhere from $13 for the cheapest lotions to $350 for the best brands on the market.

Beauty salons generally offer treatments using cellulite busting devices. The newest machine on the market is the Tri-Active laser dermology which uses a combination of laser and cellulite treatment massage to assist in improving the look of your skin. According to the company that produces the device, the laser penetrates the skin in order to improve microcirculation and break up the fat deposits. The massage helps to smooth out the lumpy appearance. One session on a Tri-Active machine is priced at $100 and it is recommended that clients have at least 15 sessions in order to see any results.

Probably the laziest way to get rid of cellulite is anti-cellulite shoes. This specially designed footwear is said to improve circulation and increase muscle activity. They cost $235 for a pair. However, anecdotal evidence suggests that these only minimally improve cellulite, if at all.

With everything said and done, the cheapest and easiest way to improve the look your cellulite is to get a fake tan. Darkening the skin makes it harder to see the lumpy skin and requires no trips to the salon or expensive products.
