This is especially true when you’re planning a large party that requires multiple stands. In this post I want to share with you my experience while shopping for cupcake stands, why you shouldn’t shop locally, and when you should rent instead of buy them.
I’ve been helping plan and decorate large parties and wedding for a long time, and cupcakes have become my specialty over the years. Through all of this I’ve learned quite a few things about the stands and where to buy them from. Years ago, it was nearly impossible to find a cupcake stand anywhere. You either borrowed one from a friend or built your own. As cupcakes have become popular for weddings and the internet is accessible by nearly everyone, you can now buy cupcake stands all over the web.
If you’re able to find a cupcake stand that suits your needs in your town, consider yourself lucky. The kind of lucky like you just won a scavenger hunt, but that’s it. The stands are always 20-30% cheaper online than they are in stores, even with shipping costs included. You might be able to brag to your friends that you found one, or turn your gumshoe skills now into finding the body of Jimmy Hoffa, but don’t buy it!
Many linen and party supply companies have cupcake stands that you can rent from them. There are only a few circumstances when this is a good idea. The main reason you don’t want to go this route every time is that you can almost buy one for the cost that it takes to rent them, and if you get a second or third use from it you saved yourself a ton of money. The time to rent is when you need a lot of stand, like 5 or more, and you can’t foresee yourself needing that many cupcake stands again in the future.
