How to Choose the Right Dressage Saddle

January 18, 2010

There are many different types of saddles that are used for horse riding. The style of the saddle is going to be dependent upon the type of riding that is done. Those who want to do the dressage style of riding are going to want to purchase a dressage saddle. But how does on choose the right one?

The first thing that should be considered is how much can be spent on a dressage saddle. In some cases, it may be wise to purchase a used dressage saddle as they are going to be more cost effective. Many times they are just as good as a new one without the higher cost.

The next thing that should be considered is whether or not a treeless dressage saddle is going to be better than the traditional type. The treeless variety uses fiberglass and other thin yet sturdy materials to make the frame of the saddle. This offers more flexibility but can cost a bit more than a traditional dressage saddle.

The material that makes up the saddle is also a consideration when purchasing any saddle. These can be made from hard leather, suede or synthetics which are the most common coverings for saddles. The material should be chosen for comfort and for the amount of contact that is going to be offered the horse and rider.

Finally, the size of the dressage saddle is going to play a huge part in purchasing one. A saddle must be comfortable for the rider as well as the horse. A saddle that is too big or too small for the rider is not going to help them to put the horses through the dressage paces.

When purchasing a saddle, make sure that all the research is done before buying one. This is going to mean that the saddle is going to be perfect for the rider. Otherwise, there is going to be money wasted and there are not many who want that.
