Heavy Duty Paper Shredder Vs Home Paper Shredder

June 9, 2010

Before you purchase any paper shredder machines, it is important that you decide on the type of shredder you require. Because these machines come in different models that are meant for different usage, you will have to assess their various features to get the one that suit your needs most. There are basically two categories for paper shredders. They are the personal shredders and a commercial-grade heavy duty paper shredder. It is vital to choose the correct type.

Home Paper Shredders

These shredders offer the usage levels that are suitable for shredding from home or smaller offices. They can cut about two to eight sheets of paper at a time and it is specially designed for occasional use. Confidential documents such as credit card statements, bank advices or personal mails can be disposed by using the personal shredder. One thing about home paper shredder is that you should never insert more paper than its recommended capacity because such machines are vulnerable to paper overload. Excess paper will cause the machine to breakdown or jam. Another point is that personal paper shredders’ average operational period each time would be around 15 minutes. It is advised that you do not use it beyond the stated operating time. Following the instructional manual closely allows longer machine lifespan.

Commercial Heavy Duty Paper Shredders

Commercial paper shredder is intended for heavier usage of shredding in larger corporations and offices. If there are large amounts of paper shredding to be done daily, this type of machine would be suitable. Unlike the personal shredders, a commercial-grade shredder can be fed more sheets of paper each time and it can work a longer period each use. This is because they are equipped with more powerful motors that help to cut up more paper to operate longer. As this is a commercial-grade machine, they are usually found in warehouses or mail rooms where loud noises will not affect proper functioning of the company. Due to frequent shredding activities handled by these machines, they have to be regularly and properly maintained. Some maintenance includes oiling the cutting assemblies and wiping off the dust that forms on the blades.
