The Homak Gun Safe is a Cheap Way to Store Your Pistol

December 24, 2009

As more and more people continue to become interested in personal home security solutions, having quick access to a pistol in the even of an emergency is a considerable concern.  There are literally dozens of personal, bedside style safes on the market suited to fit the bill, but the Homak gun safe model is one of the least expensive quality products of this breed.

Also called pistol boxes, these sturdily built handgun storage units are available in three different sizes, depending on the contents of what you plan to store.  If you’re stowing away a 50 caliber Desert Eagle , for instance, you may want to opt for the larger 14.5″ box.  The price naturally varies depending on which model that you choose, but the smaller model can get as low as $30 new.  They aren’t the most amazing products available on the market, but for the price, they’re more than adequate.

Though they aren’t available in a biometric gun safe design (opened by a fingerprint scanner), they are all opened by an electronic combination keypad, promoting comparable rapid access.  One appealing aspect of Homak pistol safes is that they’re designed to mount directly to the top of your Homak gun cabinet, should already own one.  Personally, I keep mine under my nightstand, but your situation may vary – regardless, the option is there.

Although handgun safes in general aren’t designed to keep out a serious burglary attack, their sturdy steel construction is more than adequate to keep out a curious child or a determined teenager.  This, of course, is the primary incentive to make the nominal investment in one of these Homak models; they’re secure enough to prevent casual access, while designed to be readily accessible in an urgent scenario.  If you have a pistol for home defense, don’t have a way to keep it out of harms way or a substantial budget, you may want to strongly consider a Homak pistol box.
