While some of us really enjoy the benefits of shopping on the Internet there are many more people who the digital revolution has passed by. The surprising thing is that these people are not often those who can’t afford to shop online instead it is fear and the unknown which keeps them from making the purchase. I will admit that handing your credit card details over to a faceless strange website can be very intimidating if you do not understand the process. To help I thought I would list a few points that I always look for on any e-commerce website.
The physical location for the online store is always a must even if it is not a real shop a real location for the actual business is a very good indicator of any reputable business and not just an online one. As such I also always look for a landline telephone number as this is something any good business will have.
Encryption sounds very complicated in practice however the main thing you need to look for is the little padlock icon at the bottom of your browser window. While this does not guarantee that the website is trustworthy but at least shows they are in careful with your details such as credit card number.
A factor that many people overlook is that returns policy, for instance if there is a problem with the item do you have to pay for it to be shipped back to the shop? This is especially important if you’re buying a heavy or bulky item which could be expensive to transport back. The delivery in general can be a sticky issue has often you don’t find out the complete price including delivery until the very end of the shopping card process. This can be annoying and so always check delivery prices before going through the entire purchase procedure.
Hopefully this will help you if you are someone who has yet to make their first purchase online, it is well and truly worth it in my opinion as are some great savings to be made.
