Laser Alternatives to Stop Snoring Surgery
January 28, 2010 – 5:54 pmIt is a fact that a great percentage of the World’s population has snoring problems at least once in their life. This terrible sound is more common in men than in women who thanks to estrogen levels have fewer chances for blockages to occur. The causes of snoring can be varied and they will often dictate the treatment; in some cases, like when you have enlarged throat tissues, the only option you have left to finally say good bye to snoring in your life – or at least significantly reduce it – is laser surgery snoring.
A surgical procedure will help you reduce tissue, and tighten up the muscle sin the throat. When we talk about the aid of laser for surgery we are referring to LAUP treatment a laser assisted surgery that has become perhaps the most known laser procedure used to the treatment of snoring. This is an outpatient procedure that is performed under local anesthesia using a CO2 laser to make incisions in the soft palate and the uvula. This is a treatment that will need between one and five procedures in order for it to be considered a success. It can be costly, as some insurance companies consider this surgery purely cosmetic.
The recovery period for the surgery is very short, and most people get back to work again the following day, they will have to deal though with a discomfort in the throat area similar to a strong sore throat and doctors will tell you to use over-the-counter analgesics and anti-inflammatory products to help you through the recovery phase.
Know that stop snoring surgery is not the ultimate cure. The results may be great in the short term, but patients have reported that after a year or two, the effects of the surgery are reduced, this happens in around 50% of the cases.
