There are many different LPN programs that you can select from these days in order to qualify to become an LPN. The principal reason for this expansion in the number of schools offering LPN programs is that the employment situation currently looks very favorable for LPN jobs and if indicators are anything to go by the situation may continue to improve for some years to come. That is what the Bureau of Labor Statistics forecast back in 2006 and there is no current reason to suppose their expectations have changed.
There are many different ways to study to become and LPN. Traditionally you simply selected the most local school to your location, enrolled, attended the program and at the end took the NCLEX-PN examination which if you passed meant you became a qualified LPN. However, the increase in demand for the services of the LPN has meant that schools have to encourage potential students to take up the program. They have adapted to this changed environment by both shortening the length of time it takes to qualify to become an LPN, now as little as 12 months, and by making the LPN programs on offer more accessible. This last point has meant that they now widely offer online programs which allow you to do a great deal of the study in the comfort of your own home, at times that of study that most suit your family circumstances.
This has been very liberating and has meant that the reach of the LPN schools has been significantly extended, as the boundaries of the school are no longer relevant to whether a prospective student decides to take the course.
Finally becoming an LPN also allows you to later go on to study to become a registered nurse or RN, but before committing yourself to such a course of action it provides you with a relatively easy way to assess whether a nursing career is the best choice for you.
