How A Mini Notebook Can Help You Get Better Grades

Everyone would like to get better grades. Even when I was in college it seemed like no matter how hard I tried to write everything down and take as many notes as possible, I always missed something that ended up on a quiz or exam. Luckily my last year in school I purchased a mini notebook and it changed everything. I didn’t have to worry about getting writers cramp or missing anything. Assuming you can type at any decent speed you will be able to take notes much faster than by hand and with their nice small size, they don’t stand out sitting on your desk during class. There are a few things you need to look into though to make sure you get a model that works well for school.

Battery Life – I thought all mini laptop computers had good batteries. They all claim to get between 8-10 hours and even more if you “tweak” them, whatever that means. Don’t trust the manufacturers specs when it comes to how long the battery will last. Instead look around on the internet for reviews on that particular model you are interested in. All reviewers will do what is called a “real world battery test” and report back their results. You’d be surprised at the discrepancy between the advertised and real world battery life. There are models out there however that really do last over 10 hours on a single battery. Asus is one of the companies that produces mini laptops with great better life.

Keyboard – Since your main purpose is to take notes and keep up with school work, you’ll be using the keyboard and typing a lot. Take note of exactly what size mini laptop you are purchasing. The reason for this is the difference between the 9 and 10 inch models is unbelievable. I can barely type on the 9 inch models do to the small keyboard. You wouldn’t think that 1 inch in size can make such a large difference in the keyboard and the individual key size, but it does.

Hard Drive – There are two main hard drive options available for the mini notebook computer. The standard style that you see in 99% of laptops and notebooks which is a smaller version of the desktop hard drive. The other option is known as a solid state drive or SSD. It has no moving parts and works much like a memory card in a camera would. SSD’s have two distinct advantages, the first being that they can take a little more abuse and bumping before any damage is done to them. The other advantage is that because they don’t have any moving parts, they don’t produce very much heat which is great for a mini notebook that’s in a classroom setting where the fan could cause a distraction to the other students.

After taking the time to find a mini notebook with a long lasting battery, a good hard drive, and an amazing keyboard you should be all set for taking and organizing some of the best notes you’ve ever taken.
