January 20, 2010

If you own a mobile home and are looking for a furnace for your heating needs then you should keep a few things in mind. The first thing to check on any furnace you may consider buying is whether or not the furnace is suitable for your mobile home. Your mobile home’s year and the year of your mobile home furnace need to match otherwise you will have problems. You should also check a few aspects of your home so that you can buy a furnace that will be appropriate. Check how large your air ducts are and how much physical space you have for a furnace. If space is limited, there are some models of furnaces that can be placed outdoors. You may also want to decide ahead of type of you want a mobile home electric furnace or a gas furnace. Finding out the price differential between gas and electricity in your area will help you make this decision.

How to decide what is the right size mobile home furnace

When purchasing a new furnace for your mobile home the first thing to keep in mind is what size you need. You can do this by checking your home’s over all square footage. A good place to check for this information is with the company who manufactured your home. The average size of a mobile home is about 2,000 square feet while some are as small as 900 square feet and others are 3500 square feet or even larger. If you do not determine the actual size of your home, you will not be able to buy a furnace that will be suitable.

Once you know the size of your home it is easy to figure out the amount of BTUs required to heat it. You should calculate anywhere between 25-45 BTUs per square foot. This fluctuates depending on how cold it is in your area. 45 BTUs per square foot is appropriate in the coldest of climates. You should ask experts in the field how many BTUs they think are appropriate for the climate that you live in. Once you know this information it is a simple calculation of multiplying your home’s square footage by the appropriate number of BTUs.

The lifespan of a furnace depends not only on the brand that you buy but also on the amount of maintenance it receives. If you do not attend to repairs or change your furnace filters regularly, you may be greatly reducing the lifespan of your mobile home furnace by many years. This will be costly to you in the long run as you may need to invest in a new furnace long before you would have if you had taken the time to care for your furnace properly.
