Regardless of if you have the best set of outdoor security cameras in the world, if you don’t install them right, they will be largely ineffective. The number one thing that will determine how protected your home is from burglars will be the installation of your system. Here are a few tips for installing your security cameras that you can use.
First, look around your home and find all the possible entry points. You will obviously want your doors well covered by security cameras. Your windows are possible points of entry as well, and make sure that you put some cameras to cover these, particularly if you have windows in a secluded area of your home. Don’t forget about other entry points as well! If your garage is not well seen from the road, this could be used as well and may need some cameras to cover it.
When you do install your cameras, try to make them easily visible, but don’t make your home look like Fort Knox. The goal here is to make thieves aware that they’re on camera, but not make it look like your home as something worth protecting that would make it worth being caught on tape to get. So, place a few cameras in easily visible locations, especially those over your main entrance points, but keep others well-hidden.
Finally, make sure that your outdoor cameras, while they are visible are out of the easy reach of any intruders. If your cameras are within an arm’s reach they could be easily disabled by anyone looking to get into your house. Try to place them on the roof, or otherwise protect them. Dome security cameras are great examples of cameras that are very hard to vandalize.
Installing your security system properly is a huge part of keeping your home secure. Make sure that you do so and you’ll find your home and family much safer.
