If you’re trying to learn to make money online, you’ve probably figured out that you can’t get anywhere without a good following. You need your site to be easily accessible, and visible to as many people as possible – preferably people who are looking for what your site has to offer. A search engine like Google is the ideal way to get people to your website, because it directs them directly to your site when they want something your site has to offer.
Submitting a website to Google isn’t hard – at google.com/addurl, it takes a few seconds. You type in your URL, add a few keywords so Google knows what your site is about, and then Google will index it and add it to the database. You don’t have to add any sites attached to yours; just the main page. Google’s web crawler (“GoogleBot”) will find those and automatically index them.
Some people have complained that the Google Submit option takes too long to get their page up. If you’re finding this to be the case, then the best thing to do is to try to get GoogleBot to notice you on its own. If your site is a small, stand-alone ordeal with only one or two followers, this can be very difficult. GoogleBot loves popular sites, because that means that a lot of people already find your site relevant for their searching needs.
If you’ve got a very small following, try to grow it. This could be done by online networking (for example, sending a link to your site out to a few friends or colleagues you know would be interested.) You could also keep in touch with a few similar sites and get in touch with the creators. If they find your website useful, they may post a link to it on their own sites. The links are the key; the more links to your site are out there, the more likely GoogleBot is to notice you.
