If you have a motorcycle that has some age to it, sooner or later you’re going to need some work done to it. Then the decision will be whether to have a shop do the work or do it yourself. If you choose to do the work, then you’ll need to decide where to get your used motorcycle parts.

There are a ton of places online to buy parts. The problem with buying them online is that you can not inspect the part firsthand. If you have a salvage yard close by, then you may have a source of quality used motorcycle parts close by.

If you choose to buy your parts online, you can start by looking at auction sites like Ebay. Ebay is a great place to find quality parts. But beware, there are people out there looking to scam you. This especially true if you’re looking for rare or antique motorcycle parts. The more expensive the part, the easier it is to scam people.

Whatever you do, never buy a part if the listing doesn’t have a picture. If the Seller really wants to sell the part, they’ll include quality pictures that are sharp and clear. Next, look at the Sellers feedback. If they have fewer than 50 feedbacks, I normally won’t buy from that Seller. Also, if their satisfaction feedback is less than 95%, I don’t bid.

While we’re talking about auctions, never send the Seller cash. You’d be surprised at how many morons do this! Send a postal money order or better yet, use PayPal. In case there is a dispute, PayPal will usually take the Buyers side. It may take a while to get your money, but normally you will get it sooner or late.

If you do have a dispute over a part, don’t immediately think the Seller tried to screw you. Maybe their description wasn’t as clear as it could be or perhaps your expectations were too high. If you’re very picky about your used motorcycle parts, then you may just want to pay the extra cost and buy new parts for your bike!
