solar path lights

Homeowners have many choices these days when they are planning to install outdoor home lighting on their property. Options in size, design, and type of lighting system are among the choices availabl to them. Two types of lighting systems availabe for outdoor lighting include solar lights and low voltage lights. This article will briefly discuss solar and low voltage lighting for outdoor use.

Solar lighting is the most ecologically friendly type of home lighting available, from the standpoint that it does not use electricity to illuminate. Solar lighting uses no electricity. It uses the sun’s energy to provide the lighting. However, given that it uses the sun’s energy to provide the illumination, the solar panels of the solar lighting system must be placed in the direct sunlight  for the lighting to work as designed. These lights are designed to harness the sun’s energy during the day and use it at night. They tend to work well in sunny locations, and not work well in locations that do not have a lot of sunlight. Examples of solar outdoor home lighting availabe to consumers include solar pathway lighting, solar post lights, and solar deck lights.

Low voltage lighting is a type of home lighting system that uses low voltage to illuminate. In other words, the standard home voltage is reduced, usually via a transformer. Because lower voltage is used, less electricity is consumed. However, also since a lower voltage is used than the standard home voltage, the lights do not tend to be as bright when compared to lighting that uses the standard home voltage. Nonetheless, low voltage outdoor home lighting may work well for some homeowners. Examples of outdoor home low voltage lighting include flood lights, path lights, and bollards.
