If you are a student and have just moved into a new flat, you’ll more than likely discover that it’s not very well furnished. In particular, you’ll often find that your window comes without blinds or curtains.
Fortunately, there is an excellent, low cost solution – temporary blinds. They’re blinds made of paper that you can just stick to your window frame to provide a high quality, short to medium term solution.
To install them, simply remove the paper blinds from the box, measure the size of your window, and use a sharp knife to cut the blind down to size. You then pull the backing off the sticky tape that’s affixed to the blind, and stick the whole thing to your window frame. That’s it. From box to window in a matter of minutes.
Although you probably wouldn’t want to hang on to them too long (to take to your next set of rooms, for example), they are actually quite hard wearing, and should last at least one semester, and probably for the full year.
You can pick up temporary blinds at most big stores, places like Walmart in the US, or Argos in the UK. They can also be purchased online at sites like Amazon.com. Prices are pretty reasonable – under $10 for a single blind, and about $50 for a box of five or six blinds, that is usually more than enough to cover the windows of a flat, or even a small house.
There are a couple of companies providing temporary blinds at the moment – Redi Shade are perhaps one of the best known, and produce a high quality, durable and reliable blind that is great value for money. There are also companies springing up in other countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia that provide their own variant of temporary blind.
All in all, I can’t think of a better solution if you are a cash strapped student who wants to decorate their apartment and to give yourself a bit of privacy from the prying eyes of fellow students walking past and peering into your window.
