Though many trucks are still used purely as work horses, carrying loads from a to b, many more still are driven because they are cool. They are big and aggressive looking and with so many truck accessories available to buy to customise them and look even better the market in specialised truck parts is growing year by year. One accessory that people are buying more frequently is a lowering kit.
People who drive four wheel drive trucks often have them raised to improve the look while two wheel drive owners tend to go for the opposite look and have their vehicles lowered. The general idea is that the truck looks even cooler when the wheels fill the wheel spaces. Some people will also argue that truck lowering improves handling and, of course, it certainly makes the truck easier to get into and out of.
Before you have your truck lowered you need to take a few things into consideration. Firstly, some warranties are made void by changing the suspension and so you will need to check out whether this applies to your vehicle. Secondly, once you have lowered your truck you will need to re-align the wheels as otherwise you will get uneven tire wear. If you have already lowered your truck and hadn’t thought about re-aligning the wheels then use a truck accessories guide for information on how to tell whether your tires are worn.
If you have a truck with leaf springs then one of the easiest ways of lowering it is to put lowering blocks on top of the leaf springs. If your truck has coil spring suspension then simply removing a few centimetres from the spring will give you the desired look. If you are not keen on shortening the coil yourself then a lowering kit which is custom made for your truck does the job without a fuss.
