Purchasing a Wooden Highchair as a Long Term Family Investment

May 8, 2010

There’s no denying the superior quality of a well crafted wood product over its mass produced, plastic alternatives.  While a person might be able to save a few bucks by purchasing the cheaper plastic option right now, it will not represent a quality investment for the future.  Wood, on the other hand, tends to be better cared for both in terms of build quality and choice of material.

There’s no better example of this principle than in child care products, specifically the baby high chair.  The plastic entries in this market have been getting shoddier by the year, especially in light of the fact that companies are trying to shave as much as possible off of their costs by cutting corners in the workforce and the materials that are used in their products.  This lack of quality is unfortunately passed down to the customer who ends up negating the their up front savings via expensive repair and replacements fees.

Additionally, a wooden highchair makes a fantastic heirloom to pass down through generations of parents.  This principle can be taken even further by hiring out the construction of the chair to a close friend or family member who is handy with wood working techniques and tools.  The advantage of going this route is that you can choose the perfect color and finish for your chair, ensuring that it will look good anywhere it is placed and additionally feature a child resistant surface.  It’s quite unfortunate when a high quality piece of wood furniture gets damaged by an active child or accident.

However you look at it, wood is clearly the best choice for a high chair, especially when you can have it lovingly constructed by someone who is close to you.  Having a quality piece of furniture like this to pass down through generations of your family is a beautiful thing!
